First, the vague update. I finally found what I need to post pictures, so we should have some up soon. I'll try to do it after Jim goes to bed tonight, or otherwise during his nap tomorrow. We're all doing well. We've got some work done, and we should have a new furnace by this weekend so we can be warm again. Although, that said, it's been in the 70s in Georgia this week, so we're pretty warm regardless...
Now, Jim's doctor visit! It was uneventful. He's 32" long (30th percentile) and 24lb 14.5oz (also 30th percentile) and he's finally grown into his head (still 19"). He looks and acts like a perfectly-normal, highly-intelligent, very-sociable, extremely-active 18-month-old boy. He still isn't talking, so I finally asked the doctor to hook me up with their speech pathologist just to rule out any physical problems. The doctor agrees with Noah and me that he's just a normal kid who is going to talk a little late, but I think it's still probably a good idea to double-check that he doesn't have any physical issues with his hearing/speaking apparatus, since letting those go unfixed could cause a permanent speech impediment or something. So I'll let you all know when that happens and if we find out anything interesting.
Okay, that is all. Expect pictures tonight or tomorrow afternoon.

Anxiously waiting! I'm sure the speech is fine, he communicates what he wants and gets his point across so why bother with complete speech? With so many other things to occupy his time(look a squirrel)he's not going to waste it talking.
I agree that he's probably fine and dandy, just doesn't see the need to talk to communicate now. But with Noah's hearing issues early on, it's not harmful to see a speech pathologist now, especially since you guys aren't crazy-anxious about it. That's just my epidemiology/indications-for-screening view of things.
I'm glad you're having Jimbo checked out by a specialist, Leah. He seems pretty normal to me, but it'll be good to know for sure that he's okay.
That's what I was thinking too, Rhianna. Apparently a lot of late speech problems are caused by fluid in the ears preventing clear hearing, just like Noah had later, so if that's all it is (or a mouth muscle problem or something), then I'd like to find out soon so we can head off any long-term issues.
I'm still pretty confident that he's just going to be a late talker, but it'll be good to have a professional check him out.
